Harry Travers was an avid Scunthorpe United fan and a season ticket holder who would never miss a home game. He often went to away matches to support the Iron through both good and bad times. Harry cared for his football club with a passion. This caring nature also led him to a vocation in nursing. He was in his third year of training at Leeds Met University in December 2011 when, unfortunately, he had a fatal car accident on his way home for Christmas. He was just 21.
He attended St Bede’s School between 2002 and 2007 and was Head Boy. Harry knew the importance of education and of working hard and that is why this award celebrating achievement would be so important to him. The community of Ealand, where Harry lived with his family, came up with the wonderful idea of having an annual award in Harry’s memory. The award acknowledges determination to achieve goals and a positive work ethic. Linda O’Connor, representing the community of Ealand has once again kindly donated the award.
